Leonard Philps Tolhurst is an Australian citizen, who was born in the island Kingdom of Tonga to missionary parents who spend nearly twenty years working in the South Pacific nation.

After completing his high school education in New Zealand, he undertook his formal theological studies, in Longburn College in New Zealand, Avondale College in Australia and Pacific Union College in California, U.S.A. He trained both as a teacher and as a minister, completing his Master’s degree in Theology in 1954 from the Seventh-day Adventist Seminary in Washington D.C., U. S.A.

He served as a missionary in India, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong, and did pastoral work in New Zealand. For almost 30 years he taught Theology in four colleges, and was Head of the Theology Department in three of them.

In his retirement years, he has lectured on Last Day Events, in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tuvalu, Kiribati, French Polynesia, Kenya, South Africa, Madagascar, Ukraine, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, (including Siberia), India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Mongolia, and Brazil. The study chart that he produced on Last Day Events, has been printed several times, and 14,000 copies have now been printed in three languages.
